Portrait of Britain 2018 Award.
Maryam Wahid was awarded the Portrait of Britain in 2018 from her portrait of Women from the Pakistani Diaspora. This was published in a book and shown across JCD screens all over Britain to honour 100 photographers capturing the changing faces of Britain. Maryam’s self portrait champions the identity of the women from the Pakistani diaspora in Britain.

ROYAL PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY
Maryam Wahid nominated as one of The Royal Photographic Society’s one hundred photographic Heroines. This campaign is to honour women in photography and will aim to redefine and realign the status of women in photography today.
Maryam Wahid is keen to tell women’s stories and was selected for her self-portraits series ‘Women from the Pakistani diaspora in England’. Inspired by women in her community and most specifically her mother, Maryam recreates portraiture of migrant women in Britain from Pakistan in the late 70’s and early 80’s.
